Abstract
Currently, much research is devoted to the isolation of new bioactive compounds from marine
resources that contain promising health benefits. Among marine resources, the bioactive
compounds present in many species of algae have particularly interesting nutritional and
pharmaceutical properties.
This thesis examines the beneficial effects of the green algae Ulva lactuca. It relates more
particularly to the activities of phenolic extracts.
Evaluation of antioxidant properties revealed that these extracts are active by the DPPH
scavenging method. Thus presenting a moderate antioxidant activity.
The study of the antibacterial activity on three bacterial strains (Escherichia coli, Bacillus
subtilis and Staphylococcus haemolyticus) by the agar diffusion method shows that the
phenolic extract of Ulva lactuca has no antibacterial effect on the three strains tested. , this
may be due to the composition of the extract obtained or to the use of the crude phenolic
extract without going through a purification step.
