ABSTRACT
What is an air emission inventory? An air emission inventory may be considered
formally as a data system composed of four dimensions: pollutants, sources of
pollutant, spatial components (territorial units) and temporal components.
Generally, the temporal component is reduced to a reference year, but there is
some attempt to provide shorter resolutions. Air emission inventories, what for?
The different possible users of such inventories are the following:
• scientists for use in models ...
• economists for use in forecasting models ...
• politicians for responsibility evaluation, respect of international
conventions, regulation orientation ...
public for general information.
Air emission inventory, how to proceed? The COR/NAIR project tried to provide
the most relevant way for achieving a consistent, transparent and harmonized
inventory which may be a multi-purpose data bank.

RESUME
Qu'est-ce qu'un inventaire des emissions de polluants atmospheriques? Un inventaire des emissions de polluants atmospheriques peut etre conru formellement
comme un systeme de donnees comportant quatre dimensions: les polluants, les
sources de pollution, les composantes spatiales (unites territoriales) et une
composante tempore lie. En general, la composante temporelle se reduit a une
annee de reference, mais parfois des resolutions plus fines sont necessaires. A quoi
servent les inventaires des emissions de polluants atmospheriques? Voici la liste
d'utilisateurs potentiels:
