In Figs.4.27and 4.28slicesthrough the simulation box in the xz-plane are
shown in which the nutrient distribution is visualized, for respectively the Pe
numbers 3.000 (flow dominates) and 0.015 (diffusion dominates). The color
shift from black to white in these pictures indicates a depletion of nutrients:
black indicates the maximum concentration of nutrients, while the regions
with nearly zero concentration are shown in white. In both pictures the
nutrient distributions A and B of two successive phases in the bidirectional
flow model are shown. In Figs. 4.27a and 4.28a the flow is directed from
the top to the bottom, while in Figs. 4.27b and 4.28b the flow direction is
reversed. In Fig. 4.29 slices through the simulation box in the xz-plane are
shown in which the absorption in the boundary nodes around the aggregates
is visualized for respectively the Pe numbers 0 .015 and 3.000, where black
indicates a high absorption rate and white an absorption of approximately
zero.

(a-h), Peeler number increases from
approximately 0 .0 to 3.0.

Fig. 4.27a,b. Slicethrough the simulation
box in the xz-plane showing the nutri -
ent distribution in two successivegrowth
stages in the bidirectional flow experiment in which Peis set to the value 3.000
(flow dominates). The flow is directed
from top to bottom in (a) and directed
from bottom to top in (b).
