7.2 Eutrophication Along the North Sea Coasts
7.2.1 Denmark and the Outer Baltic
Very little information is available on the relation between eutrophication
and macrophytes along the Danish North Sea coastline. I am not aware of
any comprehensive study in the open literature. Obviously eutrophication
is not recognized as a problem in the Danish Wadden Sea. In sharp
contrast with the dearth of knowledge from the tidal coasts of Denmark,
stands the considerable amount of information collected in the KattegatBelt-W. Baltic area between Sweden and Denmark and in the Danish
fjords.
Increased inputs of nutrients to the outer Baltic coastal areas over
the last decades caused severe eutrophication of these waters. In
