the Swatch where oceanic conditions dominated, all other species were present except
Temora turbinata. This species was mostly confined to the shelf and in small numbers to
areas where oceanic influence predominated. Among oceanic species Pleuormamma indica
and Euchaeta wolfendeni were present in considerable numbers in various sectors.

Fig. 9. Abundance of principal species of planktonic copepods in different ecological sectors covered
by cruises I - IV along the coast of Pakistan. Numbers represent averages per m 2
Observations made in March near the continental margin and the slope water, showed
that the epiplanktonic copepods dominated only at stations 62/1 to 3, whereas at all
other stations the oceanic species formed the bulk of the copepods. Among the epiplanktonic species of this sector, the most abundant were Acrocalanus longicornis,
Eucalanus pileatus, E. crassus, E. subtenuis and Canthocalanus pauper. All these species
tend to diminish in number in the slope water region. Among the oceanic species, Pleuromamma indica, Euchaeta wolfendeni and E. marina formed the bulk of the copepods.
In March 1967 when copepods were few in the shelf and most of the slope water region,
Temora turbinata and Eucalanus subcrassus formed the bulk of the former area while
