Fossula arctica: this diatom species was recently described by Hasle et al. (1996). In the
samples of the southern and middle transects Fossula arctica is present just in the western
region of the shelf (Figures 5 and 6). On the most northern transect this taxon also occurs in the
eastern region with a maximum abundance of 15% (Figure 7). According to Hasle et al. (1996)
