not occur in all groups. Chlorophyll-b occurs f..e. in Chlorophyta, Euglenida and
chlorophyll-c in Dinoflagellata, Phaeophyta and Bacillariophyta (diatoms). ~pigments, plants.
Chlorophyta (green algae) phylum of the Protoctista, compnsmg the classes
Chlorophyceae, the Prasinophyceae, Ulvophyceae and the Charophyceae. They contain
the pigments chlorophyll-b and lutein, and store carbohydrate as starch inside
their plastids. Cells with walls of sporopollenin are part of some chlorophytan life histories. Some genera are calcium carbonate-encrusted. These characteristics are responsible for a fossil record going back to the Paleozoic.
