situation, when in a stratified basin the primary
production remains high by a low P04-P concentration in upper mixed layer
between primary production and P04P uptake rate by microplankton measured with the use of labeled P04P (Fig. 5.16). The use of radioisotopic
methodology is practically the only way to estimate the in situ parameters of
phosphorus dynamics such as rates of uptake, turnover, regeneration, and
bottom-water exchange. Some researchers may hope that it is at least possible by chemical analysis of P04P fluctuations in enclosures placed over the
