Effect on ventilation of the west Atlantic
Before describing the dramatic effect on convection in the Labrador Sea, we
can first deal briefly with the resulting changes in the West Atlantic_ There,
coastal storm activity was not only at an interannual- but at an interdecadalmaximum in the 1960's, illustrated in Figure 18 from the time-variation of
the 1st eigenvector of annual cyclone frequencies [i.e., the EOF pattern that
