Most tidal bores are relatively small, of the order of 0.5 m, but some can be
exceptionally high. The Severn River undular bore in England is some 1-2 m
high, whereas the Amazon bore reaches about 5 m.
The conditions of conservation of mass and momentum across the bore provide a rate of energy loss in the bore (Massel, 1989):
