Management Board with the function of consultant to all ISO Technical Committees
in the application of quality management and quality assurance. This is to ensure the
integrity of the generic quality system standards and to prevent proliferation of sector-specific ISO quality systems standards that may lead to fragmentation of the
quality systems of companies in multiple assessments and thus to increased costs.
The Technical Management Board is the central technical planning and steering
committee ofISO.
Concepts of the quality management system
The implementation of a quality management system at the company level or institution level is described in detail in the ISO 9000 family of standards.
Stage 1: Identify what others expect from the company or institution:
Customers and end users
Employees
Suppliers
Shareholders
Society
Stage 2: Determine the processes that are needed to supply products to the
customers:
Customer related processes
Design and/or development
Purchasing
Product and service operations
Control of measuring and monitoring devices
Stage 3: Plan to close the gaps:
Identify actions
Allocate resources
Assign responsibilities
Establish a schedule
Stage 4: Carry out the plan:
Implement the identified actions
Track the progress to the schedule
Stage 5: Conformance = certification and/or registration
At this stage a company or institution may engage an accredited registrationlcertification body to perform an audit and certify that the quality management
system in place complies with the requirements of ISO 9001 :2000. The reasons for a
paid independent audit are generally:
• Requirement of a contract with a customer
• Market position
• Regulatory requirements
