5.2 Externalliaison organizations to ISO/TC211
209
Groups (WGs) and the Special Interest Groups (SIGs) deal with specific fields of
work and individual specifications.
The business plan developed by the Management Committee must be approved by
the OGC Board of Directors (BOD). This group is comprised of respected leaders in
the Information Technology community but they need not be affiliated with OGC
member organizations. The Strategie Members make recommendations to the Board
of Directors conceming strategie opportunities for the consortium.
The Working Group members draft the Requests for Information and/or Proposals
(RFIs and RFPs) and evaluate the proposed technologies in response to the RFPs.
The Working Group members also evaluate technologies proposed by OGC Members as Requests for Comments (RFCs) or they work on the refinement of the Abstract Specification.
Voting in WGs is by simple majority ofOGC Members present at the WG meeting, with the caveat that no OGC member organization may cast more than one vote.
The duties of the Special Interest Groups (SIGs) are comparable with those of
Working Groups, with astronger focus on Abstract Specifications and editing work
for the Technical Committee (TC). The SIG has the same voting structure as that of
a W orking Group.
Presently the OGC has the following Working Groups (WGs) and Special Interest
Groups (SIGs). The chairpersons are mostly representatives of the Strategie and
Principle OGC Members.
