Importance of Seaweed in the Climate Change—Seaweed Solution 39
will mitigate ocean acidification of the coastal area. It will also promote the enhancement of marine
biodiversity and abundance.
2) Implementing this project will encourage the development of new income and increase revenues
for fishermen and other project participants. This effect will be manifested gradually. First, fisheries
resources will be enhanced through improvements to the marine environment. This will contribute
to maintaining stable incomes for fishermen’s households, and will develop the local economy by
increased landings and reduced deviations in their catches. Second, by providing a sink for absorbed
CO 2 , this seaweed farm project will allow participants to trade in carbon credits achieved by reducing
GHG. Therefore, the CDM business will be a source of development. Shared profits that are thus
obtained can also be allocated to participating economic agencies, which will bolster the incomes of
local communities.
F.2 If any negative impact is considered significant by the project participants or the host
Party, a statement that project participants have undertaken a socioeconomic impact

Section G. Stakeholders’ comments
G.1 Brief description of how comments by local stakeholders have been invited and compiled
Public hearings, consultations, and a review process have been instituted, including discussions on how
this project concerns business types, facilities, locations, availability of funds, participating organizations,
budgets, and other related topics (Table 9). A brief history was presented on the initiation of the pilot
project and steps in consultation, the submission of proposals and the subsequent approval process,
selection of the study location, and public hearings. During the period of operation, we reported on
production and quality control, activities at on-site work facilities and those affiliated with post-operative
research and evaluation, on-site facilities management, expansion, and the sharing of results.
• Purpose of the project: Implementation of the technology for “Construction of kelp forest using
