Distribution: Asia: Pakistan, India, Bangladesh, and Nepal (Luna, 1988b).
Habitat: Freshwater, brackish water;
large rivers and connected waters.
Description: Body of this species is
elongated and deeply compressed.
Mouth is subinferior. Upper jaw is
longer than lower jaw. Barbels are well
developed and are in four pairs. Dorsal fin is absent. A small adipose fin is
present. Pectorals are well developed
and pelvic fin is small. Pectoral spine is
slender and serrated. Anal fin is large.
Caudal fin is forked, and its lower lobe
is longer than the upper lobe. Body is
silvery or whitish in color. This species grows to a maximum size of 30 cm
(Nayan, 2011a).
