Description: Dorsal profile is convex.
Snout has a pronounced concavity at
the nape. Mouth is large. Maxillary
barbels reach the eyes and mandibular barbels are very delicate. Anal fin is
free from the caudal fin. Teeth in jaws
are rather sharp and curved. Color of
the fish is brownish or yellowish and
darker on the back. Fins may be powdered with black. Maximum length of
the fish is 77 cm (Rainboth, 1996).

Family: Siluridae
Common name: Planet catfish.
Distribution: Asia: Iraq (Binohlan,
1990c).
Habitat: Freshwater, brackish water;
lakes, rivers.
Description: Mouth of this species is
large. Lower jaw is longer than upper
jaw. Maxillary barbels, which are longer than the head, reach the end of
the head. Mandibular barbels, which
are shorter, reach only the middle.
Anal fin is not fused to the caudal fin,
which is rounded. The upper part of
the body is mottled pale yellow-brown
and black. Belly has black spots. This
species reaches a maximum size of 99
cm and 8.5 kg (Binohlan, 1990c; Unlu
et al., 2012).
