Perca fluviatilis Linnaeus 1758
Order: Perciformes
Family: Percidae
Common name: European perch.
Distribution: Eurasia (Torres, 1991l).
Habitat: Slow-flowing rivers, deep
lakes, and ponds.
Description: Body of this species is
moderately deep and covered with
rough-edged scales. Head is short
and snout rounded and blunt. There
are two dorsal fins, clearly separated
from each other. First dorsal fin is
markedly higher than the second.
Caudal fin is is emarginated. A total
of 56–77 scales are seen along a lateral line. Body is greenish yellow with
five to nine transverse black bands on
the sides. First dorsal fin is gray with
a black spot at the tip. Second dorsal
is greenish yellow and pectorals are
yellow. Other fins are red. It attains a
maximum length of 51 cm and weight
of 4.75 kg (Torres, 1991l).
