Lepidocephalichthys thermalis Valenciennes 1846
(= Lepidocephalus thermalis)
Order: Cypriniformes
Family: Cobitidae
Common name: Common spiny loach.
Distribution: Asia: India and Sri Lanka
(Reyes, 1993q).
Habitat: Quiet, flowing waters with a
sandy substrate.
Description: This species has a
truncate/rounded caudal fin. There
are no scales on top of the head. Dark,
squarish spots are seen on the flanks.
A total of three to five broad dark bars
are visible on the caudal fin. Dorsal fin
origin is anterior to pelvic fin origin.
Barbels are usually relatively small.
This species reaches a maximum length
of 38 cm (SeriouslyFish, 2014c).
