Distribution:  Asia: India, Sri Lanka,
Burma, and possibly Thailand (Torres,
1991b).
Habitat: Rivers and tanks; hill streams
and streams of the lowlands and
wetlands.
Description: This species has an oblong
and compressed body with equally convex dorsal and ventral profiles. Tips of
dorsal rays are filamentous in matured
males. A pair of rudimentary maxillary
barbels is present. Body is olive dorsally
with emerald green above the lateral
line. Sides are silvery or yellow. Caudal
fin is orange with white tips. Ventral fin
is green. Other fins are orange. A large
blotch is seen above the posterior part
of the anal fin. This species attains a
size of only 10 cm (Munro, 2000).
