Puntius chola Hamilton 1822
Order: Cypriniformes
Family: Cyprinidae
Common name:  Swamp barb, chola
barb.
Distribution: Asia: Pakistan, India,
Nepal, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, and
Myanmar (Menon, 1999).
Habitat: Streams, rivers, canals, beels,
baors, ponds, and inundated fields.
Description: Body of this species is deep
and compressed. A single maxillary
pair of barbels is present.  Last  simple
dorsal  ray is moderately strong and
smooth. Lateral line is complete with
24–28 scales. Body is silvery with
golden opercle. A dark blotch is present on the base of caudal fin. This species has a maximum size of only 15 cm
(Vishwanath and Laisram, 2004).
