Common name: Southern white river
crayfish.
Distribution: United States (Alabama,
Louisiana, Maryland) (Crandall, 2010b).
Habitat: Permanent streams and aquaculture ponds.
Description: These crayfish have a space
called an areola separating the  sides of
the back, forming a gap in the middle.
Color of the animal is usually brown,
with pink or purple in some adults.
Mature crawfish have more elongated
and cylindrical claws. Usually they have
white or tan walking legs (Maryland
Department of Natural Resources).

Common name: Rusty crayfish.
Distribution: Native range is in the
Ohio River and its tributaries; lakes
and rivers throughout Ohio, parts of
Indiana and Kentucky (Phillips, 2010).
Habitat: Streams, lakes, and ponds
with varying substrates from silt to
rock and plenty of debris for cover.
