is tan in color. A rust-colored band is

side of the abdomen. Tips of claws have
black bands. Oval gap is noticeable on

Common name: Spiny-cheek crayfish.
Distribution: North America (Adams
et al., 2010a).
Habitat: Clear streams that are 10–100 m
wide, with silt, cobble, gravel, and sand
substrates.
Description: This species is a small to
medium-sized crayfish; the largest specimens reach just over 11 cm long. They
have distinctive spiny cheeks, legs with
orange tips, and striped abdomens, but
are often colored black from the sediment in which they live (NNSS, 2014).
