an automatic balance (four effective digits), the pure mercuric sulfide was
added and mixed with each soil to create the artificially contaminated soil
specially made for the tests. The concentration of the artificially contaminated
soil was set at 2000 mg Hg/kg of dried soil, the highest concentration among
mercury contaminated soils sampled in Japan.
2. Artificially contaminated soil made for the tests and the catalysts.
The catalysts listed in Table 2 were added to each artificially contaminated soil
made in process (1). The amounts of catalyst added to the soil was ten
times greater (5 x 10- 4 mol) than the amount of mercury mol (5 x 10- 5 mol) in
the soil.
3. Artificially contaminated soil made for the tests and the iron chloride.
