on crude oil and n-hexadecane as carbon source with
diverse yields, except to strain PSF-16Sw that was able to
grow only on crude oil and benzene. Ten isolates were
able to grow on all aliphatic hydrocarbons tested (nhexadecane, n-hexacosane and n-octacosane); however,
none of them grew on medium amended with aromatic
hydrocarbons. These isolates are affiliated to Alcanivorax
(PSF-3Sw, PSF-12Sw, PSF-30Sw, PSF-18S, PSF-54S, and

Figure 3 Bacterial diversity of seawater and sediment of Sidi Fredj Port. (a) Cluster analysis dendrogram displaying the bacterial community of seawater and sediment samples. Jaccard’s coefficient and 100 bootstrap analysis were used to measure similarity among the eight DGGE banding patterns. (b) DGGE profiles of PCR amplified 16S rRNA V3 region from seawater and surface sediment samples. Sw5 and sed5 samples are missing.
