l— Mature individuals of C. hz‘ppurus probably prefer deep waters, far
from the coastal areas. This was verifed by the authors they caught
'
two large mature specimen weighing about 15 Kg, 30 Km for
the coast.

2—
This work was conducted in the coastal waters within the range of
‘
4 Km, far from coast. This was probably the reason why no mature
individual were caught.
3—
The presence of immature individuals of C. hippurus in the coastal
areas
is probably due to the presence of food items, and to avoid
_predation.
'
4- The catch of smaller individuals in early season (late August) and
.
the longers ones in late season (November) indicates that the coastal
waters
represent the growth places for C. hz‘ppurus Since there was a
big difference in weights between individuals caught in August (325
grams) and those caught in November (1000 grams), this suggests
that fish has a higher growth rate.
.
Larger sizes and different sexes of C. hippurus may differ in
feeding habits than that represented in this sthdy. DE.MARTINÏ
(1969) suggested that sexes and size of certain fishes greatly
determine the feeding habits of fishes.

During this study C. happurus was observed to be very active
during the day especially in the early morning and before sunset. This
is
probably due to temperature (Low), which may explain why
shermen use shade for catching this during its non—active periods
(mid—day). The normal activity of C. hz‘ppurus may be attributed to
the availability of prey-food items.
Feeding habits and feeding behaviour are related to the
structure of the month and teeth (STEVEN, 1930). The mouth of
C. hz‘ppurus is terminal, large low on head, and the lower jaw projects
slightly
comblike grasping and holding teeth; which make this sh .
_
pisciverous.
.
Coryphaena hippurus individuals are usually conned to the
upper l5 metrs of the water column. It was observed hunting by
'
striking the preys horizontally and often leaping out of the water in
