Figure 5 gives a graphicai representation of tabie 2 for the
major food items. Each area in the figure gives an idea of the relative
importance of each prey item for C. hz‘ppuruS. lt is evident that in
1981 B. belone ranked as the major food item for this fish folowed by
5. auriîa, Danichz‘hyes species and M smaris respectively. Where as
in 1982 S. auriz‘a was the major food item folowed by B. belone,
Danielsz‘hyes species, and M smarz‘s repectively.
Figure 6 compares the major food items {their percent
number, percent volume, and percent frequency of occurence)
between the two years 1981 and
1982. It is clear the figure that in
1982
S. auriz‘a was the most abundant food item in 1981, where as in
1981 B. belone was the most abundant that in 1982. The food item
Danichthyes . speCieswas almost of the same abundance in both
While the foOd ite'rnYl/I. Sh1aris was the most abundant in 1981 than of
1982. This gure also shows that in 1981 the most abundant food
item in the diet of C. hippurus was B. belone and the least wasM
smarz‘s while in 1982 the most abundant food item was S. auriz‘a and
the least was M smarz‘s.
_
'
Calculation of the percent similarity index (PSI) between, the
years 1981 and 1982 was very high (83,33% similarity). This indicates
that there was no difference in the presence of food items in the
stomach of C. hz‘ppurus between the two years.
