Absorption and Utilization of
Nutrients
Measurements
of
postprandial metabolic rates have been
made
in
Carp larvae and juveniles under a variety of
nutritional
conditions
(Kaushik and Dabrowski l983a,
b).
The
postprandial
ammonia excretion patterns have several components
:
basal
or
endogenous
excretion,
effects
of
uptake and utilization
of
exogenous
nitrogen and catabolism of body proteins°
The
peak
excretion
rates
after
a
meal
as
they are affected
by
body
weight
and
food
intake
are
presented
in
3.
Such
parameters might be considered as valuable indicators of food
intake
and
of
the
return
of
appetite, especially while trying
to
optimize large—scale production with automatic feeders.
3.
The
effects
of
body weight and of food intake
(%
BW)
on
the
peak rates of ammonia nitrogen excretion rates
in
Carp
