In hydrolysis, splitting of ester and amide bonds is common. Hydrolytic
enzymes contained in mammals include carboxylesterases, cholinesterases, and
organophosphatases. These are involved in hydrolyzing functional groups,
such as carboxylic acid ester, phosphoric acid ester, and acid anhydride (e.g.,
diisopropylfluorophosphate (DFP)) (Figure 6.2).
