3.4.3 Extracting the Full Complex Refractive Index Using
RP-THz-TDS
One of the major advantages of time-domain spectroscopic techniques, compared
those based solely on measuring the intensity of radiation, is that the phase information allows the direct determination of both the real and imaginary part of the complex
refractive index, as described in Sect. 2.4. Having determined the orientations of the
in-plane principal axes of the two samples of ZnO and LAO in the previous section,
this section will demonstrate how the RP-THz-TDS technique may be used to extract
the full complex refractive index for both principal axes for an arbitrary orientation
of the sample.
