16.4.2 Engineering Instrument Configuration
According to the requirements for engineering exploration, current instrument technology, system resource constraints and target features, after proposal and deliberately analyzing, it was determined that there would be engineering instruments
on the lunar lander as follows. Three monitoring cameras were installed on the top
plate of the lunar lander for imaging the lunar rover status of locking/unlocking and
deployment. One lunar dust detector was installed for measurement of lunar dust
accumulation, which had two heads, one was solar cell detector on the top plate
of the lunar lander and another was the stick quartz crystal microbalance (SQCM)
in a module of the lunar lander which had a cover to be opened and closed. The
engineering instruments on the Chang’E-3 lunar lander are listed in the Table 16.6.
1. Functions of Engineering Instruments
The function of monitoring camera A was to monitor the lunar rover
locking/unlocking status (the front wheel of the lunar rover) and movement to the
transfer mechanism. The function of monitoring camera B was to monitor the lunar
rover locking/unlocking status (the rear wheel of the lunar rover), release status of
