16 Scientific Instrument Technology of Lunar Lander
the separation plug states, and movement to the transfer mechanism. The function of
monitoring camera C was to monitor transfer and deployment to lunar surface of the
lunar rover, as well as movement on lunar surface. All the monitoring cameras should
be able to acquire colorful continuous and still images, adjust exposure, compress
image data and be capable of anti-lunar-dust.
The function of lunar dust detector was to measure lunar dust accumulation by
landing impact and natural floating on lunar surface, and compress data.
2. Specification of Engineering Instruments
The specifications of monitoring cameras included: color, band range, imaging
modes, normal imaging distance, effective pixels number, FoV, frame frequency,
quantitative value, signal to noise ratio, MTF, maximum data rate, data compression
ratio, power consumption and mass.
The specifications of lunar dust detector included: resolution, measurement range,
effective detection area, maximum data rate, power consumption and mass.
16.4.3 Functions, Performances and Implementation
In term of design and development, the function and performance requirements for
all scientific and engineering instruments were analyzed. The detail implementation
methods are listed in Table 16.7.
16.5 Calibration and Special Testing
Besides conventional tests including cyclic aging test, running-in test, mechanical
environment and thermal environment, the calibration tests and relevant special tests
should be conduct for the scientific and engineering instruments.
The purpose of calibration test is to test the accuracy of the payload instruments by
standard measurement instrument, and determine whether it meets the requirements
and corrects to the expected state. The purpose of the payload instrument calibration
was to confirm that the performances should meet the requirements of technical
specifications or design requirements. If the requirements were not met, modifications
shall be made until the requirements were met.
