12.5 Typical Application of System Integration and Assembly
431
The nuclear operation was generally implemented at launch site. The final assembly
of radioisotope device was crucial to the quality of the devices and the safety of
operators. The process was multi-coupled, and the technological process was particularly important. In accordance with people-oriented principle, an assembly process
design that combined time, distance and shielding was proposed. In term of implementation timing, the nuclear operation could be classified into two phases: the
assembly phase in technical area and on launch tower. During the assembly phase on
launch tower, the technological process was refined and optimized through rehearsal
in launch site. The different nuclear operation were managed to be implemented
at different timings, such as after opening of the transport container cover, before
closing of the launch fairing, after closing of the launch fairing and before launch,
so as to minimize the implementation risk of operators. In term of nuclear operation process, the process documents were refined. Methods were proposed, such as
‘local operation in storage location’ to improve the operation efficiency of removing
the cover of the radioisotope devices, application of Velcro fastener for multilayer
insulation assembly to rapidly complete restoration of multilayer insulation after
implementation of electrical connectors on surface of the lunar lander.
2. Simulation and Rehearsal of Nuclear Operation
In order to further verify the feasibility of nuclear operation process and improve
the familiarity of nuclear operation operators with the process at the same time, a
simulation environment of nuclear operation that was basically consistent with the
actual operation conditions was established, and a simulated tower and a simulated the
lunar lander were developed. The nuclear operation operators repeatedly performed
verification and rehearsal in a 1:1 simulation environment, so as to verify the assembly
processability and improve the proficiency of operation, which ensured high-quality
implementation of nuclear operation at last.
12.5.11 Reassembly at Launch Site
The re-assembly at launch site is the final step of system integration and assembly,
which is also the most important step of space mission. According to the technological
process, generally there are assembly of instruments, cables and multilayer insulation
components. The hardware status of all subsystems shall be confirmed for launch. In
term of location, the re-assembly at launch site can be classified into technical area
assembly, propellant load area assembly and launch area assembly. In the technical
area, the solar panel and pyrotechnics shall be assembled, measured and tested. In
the propellant load area, the propellant shall be loaded and the gas shall be filled for
spacecraft. In the launch area, there will be operation related to test of spacecraft
and launch vehicle, including lift, protection cover disassembly, plug and unplug of
electrical connectors on surface of spacecraft.
The Chang’E-3 lunar lander was a new developed spacecraft in China. There
were a lot of tasks that should be verified and tested in the re-assembly at launch
