11.7 Summary
In this chapter, a typical landing gear mechanism is given as an example to introduce
common cushion methods, design, analysis and verification of landing gear mechanism. The landing gear system was applied China’s the Chang’E-3 lunar lander,
and the function and performance had been comprehensively verified through flight,
which meant that the key technology of landing gear mechanism for lunar landing
was successfully developed and demonstrated.
Since the twenty-first century, space technology has been boomed all over the
world and deep space exploration was the focus of all space countries. United State,
Russia, European Space Agency, Japan and India, etc. are implementing or planning
landing exploration project for the Moon, Mars and asteroids. Different technology
of landing impact cushion is developed.
Landing impact cushion for deep space landing exploration is an important factor
to all space countries. Along with progression of China’s deep space exploration, the
landing gear technology will be advanced in China. Due to diversity of exploration
targets and mission objectives, the technology is diverse. For example, the landing
gear system for asteroids shall be light miniaturization, while that for manned lunar or
Mars landing shall be in large size, capable of high load and high stability for landing.
Meanwhile, along with continuous progression of robotic technology, intelligent
landing gear mechanism integrated with cushion, walking and exploration will be
the new interest.
