2009 he was the Deputy Director of the Space Telescope Science Institute in
Baltimore, MD.  In January 2012, he returned to NASA and served as Associate
Administrator of NASA’s Science Mission Directorate. He retired in 2016. Earlier
in his career, he supported several stratospheric balloon missions.
Shaul Hanany
He is a Professor of Physics at the University of Minnesota. He earned his B.Sc.
(Magna Cum Laude) from Tel Aviv University in 1987, M.Sc. from Rensselaer
Polytechnic Institute in 1989 and Ph.D. from Columbia University in 1993. He is currently Professor, School of Physics and Astronomy, University of Minnesota. He participated in a number of missions that investigated the cosmic microwave background
radiation, including Maxima in 2000 and WMAP in 2003, and was involved in two
stratospheric balloon experiments; one which launched in Texas and landed there, and
the other launched in Sweden and landed in Siberia. He is the current Editor, Journal
of Cosmology and Astro-particle Physics and Research Fellow at the Center for
Particle Astrophysics, University of California, Berkeley. He is also a Fellow, American
Physical Society and member of several scientific and professional societies.
