For the rest of the year the Covid-19 pandemic meant most of the planned balloon flights had to be canceled worldwide.
2019
There were 217 flights this year, mostly for Project Loon. The significant science
payloads were:
• The SuperTIGER instrument.
• The Primordial Inflation Polarization Explorer (PIPER).
• JPL Remote; a multi-instrumented upper atmosphere research
experiment.
• The Polarized Instrument for Long-wavelength Observation of the Tenuous
interstellar medium (PILOT).
• The Balloon-borne Investigation of Temperature and Speed of Electrons
(BITSE) in the corona.
• A HASP flight for Louisiana students.
• A HEMERA flight from ESTRANGE, Sweden.
• A PIGGYBACK flight, an ExoMars drop test.
• The SWAEROSAT from the Indian National Balloon Facility in
Hyderabad.
2018
Of the 181 flights during this year, 137 were for Project Loon, mostly launched
from Ceiba, PR and Winnemucca, NV. The others were:
