Abstract This article presents the work carried out on the energy field objects of
the thermal power plants (TPPs) by means of acoustic emission (AE) method. In
total, 5 examples of AE method applications on TPP are presented in the article,
such as pipelines testing during hydraulic pressure test, valve leak detection, inflow
detection of vacuum equipment, testing of cooling tower support columns, testing of
power transformer insulation.
35.1 Introduction
Energy field is one of the most important in modern life, because it provides heat
and power supply. The main power generation sources in this field are TPPs. TPP
combines a large number of equipment involved in its work at various stages. At
that uninterrupted operation of TPP is necessary. In the result, there is need to assess
the technical state of all its equipment in operation mode. The AE method is a good
method which can be used for decision of this task.
The AE method can be used on TPP to solve at a least the next list of tasks:
– Testing of pipelines during hydraulic pressure test;
– Valve leak detection;
– Air inflow detection of vacuum equipment (research task);
– Testing of cooling support columns (research task);
– Testing of power transformer insulation.
