capsid and these capsid varies in shape like spherical, simple helical, and helical with
more complex structures having tails. Figure 4 shows the self-assembled icosahedral
structure of the herpes simplex virus (HSV-1). The tobacco virus was the first virus
to be discovered whose self-assembled helical structure is shown in Fig. 5. As shown
in Fig. 5a, the dimensions of the tobacco mosaic virus are approximately 300 nm in
length and 18 nm in diameter.
