1.2 Products of the Industry
The industry supplies corrugated sheets, corrugated flaps and corrugated boxes.
Corrugated sheets are the paper sheets with one corrugated layer of paper pasted
over the other plain layer of paper. Corrugated sheets are more flexible than the
plain paper sheet, which is beneficial for wrapping irregularly shaped objects for
transportation purposes. Figure 7 shows the products of the industry.
Corrugated flaps are made by punching the sheets and are used to pack the tins
from top and bottom. These flaps are used to pack the tins of edible oil from the top.
Corrugated boxes or cartons are packaging material for many products as they
facilitate safe handling for the delicate and/or expensive products. A corrugated
box is designed on the basis of the material to be packed. In case of water bottles
packing, the cost of water bottles is very less and so spending much on corrugated
box becomes a burden and so low-quality packing is done. On the other hand, for
edible oil and beverages, safe handling is equally important and so box with good
strength is designed. Based on these considerations, boxes are designed for various
carrying capacities and sizes with various layers, as shown in Fig. 8.
