7 Comparative GIS-Based Assessment …

Fig. 7.13 Distribution of landslide along with different relief
7.14 Conclusion
Most of the development activities taking place in the Himalayas are done with utter
disregard to the mountain environment and its characteristics. Unplanned and unscientific development is making the Himalayas more prone to disasters like landslides.
There is great need to bridge the gap between scientist, policy-makers, and those
implementing the projects in order to come up with an inclusive plan and implementation strategy with regard to fragile areas like the Himalayan belt. Based upon
the accuracy assessment, the LRM seems to have better applicability in the Chepe
River corridor in comparison to statistical index method using same eleven triggering
factors. Due to the time constrains, these models are not tested in the other parts of
Nepal, however, on the basis of the literature review, LRMs has better performance,
better applicability, and accuracy than the SIMs (Akgun 2012; Dou et al. 2015;
Lim et al. 2011; Mondal and Mandal 2018; Mousavi et al. 2011; Pourghasem et al.
2013). For the landslide control, prioritization should be given to the proper land use
management to control the landslide of the area. Development is necessary; however,
haphazard road construction is increasing the likelihood of occurrence of landslide
