4 Results and Discussion
4.1 Effect of Particle Size and Concentration
of Photoluminescent Pigment Printed Textiles
on Luminescence
It was observed that both pigment size and concentration plays a significant role in
the intensity of luminescence exhibited by the cotton printed textiles. The absolute
lux readings using an illuminometer are exhibited below (see Fig. 2). Aqua blue
pigment (B4 pigment) of particle size 50–60 μm at pigment concentration of 5 %
exhibits a glow of 0.03 lux which increases to 0.04 lux as the concentration of
the pigment is increased to 20 % in the print paste. Aqua blue pigment of particle
size 10–15 μm (B1 pigment), the luminosity increases from 0.05 to 0.17 lux as
the concentration of the pigment is increased from 5 to 20 % in the print paste.
Similarly, for the pigment yellow-green (G1, G4 pigment) the lux readings change
from (0.05 lux, 0.02 lux) at 5 % concentration to (0.15, 0.06 lux) respectively, at 20 %
concentration. It was thus observed that as the concentration of pigment increases
in the print, photoluminescence increases evidently irrespective of the size of the
pigment. Similar studies have been reported in the literature by Zang et al. as well
