5 Espaces vectoriels normés
5.1 L’ESSENTIEL DU COURS ET EXERCICES D’ASSIMILATION
5.1.1 Normes
Ce qu’il faut savoir
Soit E un espace vectoriel sur K (= R ou C).
• On appelle norme sur E toute application N : E → R
+ telle que :
(i) ∀x ∈ E, (N (x) = 0 ⇒ x = 0 E ) (séparation)
(ii) ∀x ∈ E, ∀l ∈ K, N (lx) = |l| N (x) (homogénéité)
(iii) ∀ (x, y) ∈ E
2 , N (x + y) N (x) + N (y) (inégalité triangulaire)
On dit alors que le couple (E, N ) est un espace vectoriel normé.
La norme d’un élément x de E est souvent notée x .
• Exemples de normes classiques
1) Normes standard de K
n (n ∈ N
∗ ). Pour tout x = (x 1 , · · · , x n ) ∈ K
n , on pose
x 1 =
n
k=1
|x k | ; x 2 =
n
k=1
|x k |
2 ; x ∞ = max
1kn
|x k |
.
On définit ainsi trois normes sur K
n .
2) Soit
E,
· |·
un espace préhilbertien réel ou complexe, alors l’application
· · : x → →x =
x |x
est une norme sur E appelée norme euclidienne.
3) Soit (a, b) ∈ R
2 tel que a < b et soit E = C ([a, b] , K). On pose pour tout
f ∈ E :
f 1 =
b
a
| f (t)| dt, f 2 =
b
a
| f (t)|
2 dt et f ∞ = sup
t∈[a,b]
| f (t)| .
On définit ainsi trois normes sur E.
• Inégalités triangulaires : Soit
E, · ·
un espace vectoriel normé. Pour tout
(x, y) ∈ E
2 , on a ||x − −y| x + y x + y .
• Vocabulaire : Soient a ∈ E et r > 0. On appelle
