material and agential causal mechanisms. Respondent 13 indicated that the Gardens
will use the collected storm water for irrigation purposes (p. 112). The idea shows
how the Botanical Gardens fit in with residential water management, which is an
ideational causal mechanism. He also mentioned that litter in the storm water is a
major issue, since it clogs the storm-water system during rain events and results in
erosion from the overflow.
Respondent 14’s analysis shows that material causal mechanisms received a score
of 15, followed by structural causal mechanisms, with a score of 10, and then
ideational and agential mechanisms, with scores of 7 and 4, respectively (Fig. 3.49).
Just like the other respondents, Respondent 14 spoke about green and ecological
infrastructures and gave examples, such as artificial wetlands, which she does not
consider to be natural systems. For her, a natural wetland is a natural ecosystem,
which equates to an ecological infrastructure (p. 93). With respect to structural
causal mechanisms and water security, she mentioned that she does not think that the
