Carbon Footprint Assessment with LCA Methodology

phenomenon such as thermal expansion, ocean acidification, and climate change.
Rising temperature has imposed serious setbacks in climate change. Longer warmer
seasons and shorter winter cycles with disturbed rain cycles are disturbing the crop
cycle as well. Climate change imposes several potential challenges to the environment, physical and health impacts. These challenges are floods, severe droughts, and
storms, heat waves, rising sea-levels, deviated crop growth; and disarrayed water
systems. Furthermore, melting glaciers has also become a serious threat to rising sea
levels. In recent years, as a result of thermal expansion and glacier melt, the global
average sea level has been rising at about 3 mm per year during the past 20 years,
threatening the inundation of areas with low elevation. Continuing a similar trend
will submerge several islands in the India-Pacific Ocean regions in the coming future
by 2050 to 2100 [17].
4 Probable Mitigation of These Concerns
A significant remedy to reduce these gigantic figures is very simple which is undo
all activities that impelled us to reach here. Though it seems easy while talking but
considerably impossible to undo which has been done for centuries. You cannot
undo anything which has been taking place for years. This gives us two lessons; one
is to try really hard to control as much as you can, and the other is to remember
the limitation of “undo-rule.” Presently, the world is way more concerned than ever
before to convey as much as positive efforts. One commendable effort regarding the
mitigation of climate change is to set a potential target by the UN member parties
during the Paris Agreement. The aim was to limit the average global temperature
to 2 °C above preindustrial temperatures, which are going to be discussed in this
section [11].
Such huge targets may be easily achievable when deployed in certain industrial,
transportation, and personal regulations. These are discussed as follows.
• Lesser dependency over luxury. Drive less, walk or cycle more, carpooling and
mass transportation must help reduce emissions [11, 18]
• Choice of diet; preferring vegan diet over nonvegans; low carbon diets (7.19 kgCO 2 equivalent for high meat-eaters and 2.89 for vegans) [19, 20]
• Follow the 4-R’s formulae; Reduce, Reuse, Recycle, Refuse
• Use of lesser air-conditioning and heating. The natural systems have better airconditioning and heating. This may be seen from the COVID-19 situation. Being
dependent on natural sources is an important lesson taught by the current crisis.
• Reducing deforestation and increasing forestation and have proper care of that
• Utilization of renewable energy sources; biomass for metallurgical applications
has proven itself and is a booming area of research. Not only biomass, other
sources like solar, water and wind have also established in reducing the share of
fossil fuels [7, 8]
• Reducing the use of fossil fuels as much as we can
