• Industrial reforms for waste heat capture, recycling, and regeneration
• Mapping of industries with competent authorities
• Urban sustainable planning (such as sustainable cities)
• Nothing must go waste
• Technological upgrade
• Following the government protocols, schemes, and plans such as the Kyoto
protocol, European Union—Emissions Trading Scheme (EU-ETS), Publicly
Available Specification (PAS—2050), Paris agreement, etc. [21].
• Standardization of transportation mediums
• Return what you are taking from nature in whatever form you can
• Capital taxation over crossing the usable threshold for individuals as well as
industries
• One child policy; In a study published by Environmental Research Letters in 2017
revealed the best way among all by following the one-child policy. Having one
less child will help in mitigating our carbon footprint by an extensive amount. A
reduction of 58.6 tonnes CO 2 equivalent may be observed in the case of developed
countries [22].
These are some of the major reforms that the world needs to follow to capture
the excess of these carbon emissions. Some of them can be followed by us very
easily and others will be easily taken care of by the government and other competent agencies. Imagine a prosperous world, full of resources, clean air, water, land,
ecological diversity, etc. with just small attempts by us. We are now aware of the
carbon footprint, their effects on the environment, and mitigation methods. The next
move is to understand what is their assessment and why it is needed which we are
going to discuss in the next section.
5 Need for an Assessment
The actual quantitative understanding of the situation, which is being observed, is a
result of the assessment. This is the reason why assessment is important. Assessment
is nothing but a reasonable explanation and mapping of a process. It has nothing
to do with the technological advancements, feasibility, and other processes/product
attributes, just the mapping of the system. A complete portraying will come up with
all the probable attributes of the system under consideration that gives detailed access
to the system. The word system is given for a simpler term and that may be a process,
product, transition, and approach. Assessment becomes necessary whenever you feel
a requirement for system modification because then you may be able to precisely
predict the possible outcomes. The assessment can be variable in terms of their
types; qualitative and quantitative, but the objectives are going to serve the same.
A typical example of an assessment method is carbon footprint assessment, and the
results presented in previous sections are a form of quantitative assessment. Various
tools may be used for this purpose but the fundamental principle is the same. The
