The Main Pillars of the 2010 Obama Energy Plan
1. $150 billion for activities that seek to identify new, clean energy resources with
the aim of creating 5 million new jobs in 10 years;
2. Broader programs and in-depth reforms in the economic sphere, in order to
lower US greenhouse gas rates by 80% by 2050;
3. Source 10% of US energy required for electricity from renewable energy by

4. Five-year reduction on federal taxes to motivate investment in clean energy;
5. Use building standards to increase energy efficiency by 20% by 2020;
6. Increase the efficiency of new buildings by 50%, and improve the efficiency
and quality of previously built buildings by up to 25% over 10 years;
7. Establishing new energy standards by the US Department of Energy and funding the implementations of such changes; (Taheri and Torabi 2010:22)
8. Creating incentives to reduce energy consumption in the private sector, including tax-breaks for companies that increase their energy efficiency. Penalizing
companies increasing their energy consumption.
9. Creating an efficient and high-quality power distribution network;
10. $15 billion annual increase in investment in new energy efficiency and energy
saving;
11. Bidding to increase energy efficiency, exploiting reserves, and creating new
sources of energy from biomass as well as the creation of a digital energy transmission network;
12. Establishing a Federal Investment Program aimed at monitoring and encouraging the modernization of manufacturing;
13. Investing in new cars that work with minimal energy. Producing 1 million electric cars by 2015; (Taheri and Torabi 2010:22)
14. Taking 4 percent standard for optimum car use while helping the industry Car

15. Providing $7000-worth of tax-breaks for those who own quality cars;
16. Providing $4 billion in credit and loan guarantees to manufacturing companies
to encourage them to produce high-tech in the US;
17. Increasing coordination between Congress, the US government, and the automobile industry;
18. Engaging in immersive efforts to make new cars fit for market consumption;
19. Generating at least 60 billion gallons of biofuels by 2030; implementing the
necessary infrastructure to this end;
20. Establishing standards for reducing carbon emissions by encouraging alternatives to fossil fuels; and even banning the use of fuels that produce carbon above
national standards;
