3. Gelatin: weigh 0.15 g of gelatin powder (porcine skin,
Mw ¼ 50–100 kDa). Calculate the amount of solvents required
by using the weight ratio of gelatin:water:acetic acid:ethyl acetate ¼ 15:25:36:24. Add the calculated amount of water, acetic
acid, and ethyl acetate in sequence. Place a magnetic stirrer into
the solution. Tighten the lid and cover the lid with parafilm.
Leave the solution to stir until homogeneous.

1. DC voltage supplier (up to 5 kV).
2. Crocodile clips connecting to the voltage supplier.
3. Safety switch which ensures the voltage is cut when the switch
is off.
4. Syringe pump (World Precision Instruments, AL-1000).
5. X-y moving stage, with a speed of ~100 mm/s, resolution
better than 1 μm, and uni-directional repeatability better than
1 μm; and z-stage of resolution better than 1 μm.
6. 1 mL plastic syringe as the polymer solution reservoir.

translated into the stage trajectory, as shown in the green line. (c) The fibers are patterned following the stage
movement. (d) PEO fibers patterned on a glass coverslip. (e) Parallel straight fibers imaged under an optical
