Fig. 14.6 Differences in GHG emissions between the two scenarios in each sector in 2030
occur due to introducing new ICT equipment, such as communication servers and
computers. However, since the purpose of this paper is to develop a method to estimate
the positive GHG emissions reduction effects by ICT use, the additional electricity
consumption is not included here. If the additional electricity consumption is also
considered, electric demand will increase depending on the numbers and scales of
introduced ICT equipment.
14.4.2 Discussion
Individual GHG emissions reduction effects for ICT services in each industry category in 2030 are also discussed in this paper. In Fig. 14.7, the results show that when
ICT services in manufacturing (Category C) are introduced, such as supply-chain
management and industrial robots, GHG emissions are most greatly reduced. This
is considered to depend on the efficiency improvements in production processes.
