5.56 The Case of Cis Diamino Dichloro Platinum
(Cisplatin) Antitumor Drug [Pt(NH) 3 Cl 2 ]:
Mechanism of Combinational Chemo-radiotherapy
Cisplatin (CDDP) is one of the most widely used anticancer drugs [29]. Despite its
great success, CDDP shows severe toxic side effects and acquired resistance. For
these reasons, researchers tried to develop new platinum anticancer drugs, based on
the Pt coordination properties. The number of employable new drugs was very low
compared with that of the synthesized compounds; thus, it seemed of greater benefit
to modulate the pristine CDDP. Which kind of modulation? Dose modulation?
