those magnetic labels. Such fringe field can be detected by the bottom sensors.
Quantitative suggestions for the level of concentration of the target analyte in the
sample solution can indeed be obtained from those detected magnetic signals. GMRbased biosensing systems have been widely implemented for immunochemical assay.
First, GMR-based immunochemical assay was done in 2003 by utilizing spin valve
sensors in order to detect a single MNP via biotin–streptavidin interaction. GMRbased biosensing system has been successfully experimented for the detection of
prostate cancer, ovarian cancer, lung cancer, etc. Several other types of analytes,
such as viruses, bacteria and toxic ions can also be detected. Recently, multiplexed
detection is also feasible using portable GMR biosensing systems having capacity
to detect up to 12 kinds of tumour biomarkers.
Such GMR sensor-based Point of Care (POC) diagnostic devices, having ability
to perform multiplexed detection, are quite promising for diagnostic applications.
