14.5.1 Examples of Oscillating Water Column Wave Power
Generation in China
China has vast marine resources. The theoretical storage of wave energy is about 70
million kW. The density of wave energy and current along the coast is 2–7 kW per
meter, which has great potential for wave energy development. In the early 1980s,
the wave energy devices of fixed and floating oscillating water column were
studied. The Guangzhou Institute of Energy, Chinese Academy of Sciences, has
developed symmetrical wing turbines wave power generation devices for beacon
lamps. There are many types of beacon lamps of 10–100 W, as shown in
Figs. 14.17 and 14.18, respectively. At present, it has produced more than 700 sets,
which are used in China’s coastal areas and exported to Japan and other countries.
During the Seventh Five-Year Plan period, led by Guangzhou Institute of
Energy, Chinese Academy of Sciences, the first wave power station in China was
built on Dawanshan Island, Zhuhai City, and successfully tested in 1990. The
