these vegetable oils caused carbon deposit buildups and sticking of piston
rings with extended operation.
German et al. (1985) conducted field trial tests using six John Deere and
Case tractors by averaged 1300 hours of operation. Carbon deposits in the
combustion chamber were greater for the tractors fueled with sunflower oil/
diesel (50:50) than for those fueled with a sunflower oil/diesel fuel blend
(25:75). All the test engines that ran with vegetable oil/blends had more carbon buildup than diesel fuel.
Malaysia uses palm oil as the major source of renewable energy for diesel
engine purposes. Sapaun, Masjuki, and Azlan (1996) reported that palm oil
